Our Team

PhD-trained researchers from Wageningen University, supported by academic advisors, advancing precision fermentation

Our core team is composed primarily of PhD graduates from Wageningen University & Research. Team members work across two complementary research directions—protein science and microbiology—bringing deep training from one of the world’s leading centers for food, agriculture, and life sciences.

We are further strengthened by academic professors who serve as advisors, offering scientific guidance and helping connect our work to the broader research community. Together, we link rigorous science with pathways toward pilot-scale production and industry collaboration.

Individual profiles are shared selectively. For introductions or collaboration inquiries, please reach out or visit our LinkedIn page.

Research Directions

Core expertise of our Wageningen-trained researchers

Core team

Protein Science

Researchers with PhD training focused on functional proteins—design, characterization, and translation through precision fermentation toward safe, nutritious, and scalable applications.

Core team

Microbiology

Researchers with PhD training in microbial systems that underpin fermentation processes—host development, strain performance, and the biological foundations of protein production.

Academic Advisors

Professors from academia who guide our scientific direction

WFFI works with academic professors as advisors. They provide independent scientific counsel, help keep our research aligned with high academic standards, and support connections across the university and wider research ecosystem—without day-to-day operational responsibility for the institute.

How We Work Together

Capabilities that connect research to partnership and scale

AI-Assisted Protein Design

Computational and experimental workflows that support protein redesign, evaluation, and iteration within our Wageningen research hub.

Science–Industry Liaison

Engagement with academic institutions, startups, and industry partners to turn scientific insight into collaboration and co-development.

Pilot Translation

Close coordination with production partners such as NewPro to move concepts from lab innovation toward pilot-scale validation.

Wageningen Ecosystem

Rooted in Wageningen’s food and life-sciences community, we collaborate locally and internationally to strengthen Sino-Dutch and cross-sector partnerships.
